What To Expect At Each Step…
Initial Appointment
We will begin your evaluation with an initial consultation lasting between 60 to 120 minutes.
During this session, Dr. Shapiro will focus on understanding your concerns and gathering relevant background information. This allows us to tailor our approach to your specific needs and ensure an accurate evaluation. Your insights and experiences will help guide us in determining the most appropriate assessments and interventions for you.
Evaluation Appointment
At a follow-up session, Dr. Shapiro will administer several tests (paper-and-pencil, verbal, “puzzles”) in order to assess various cognitive functions. Areas evaluated may include:
Attention
Memory
Language
Problem-solving
Motor functioning
Each test will provide insight into how different regions of the brain are functioning. This thorough assessment allows us to identify strengths and weaknesses in cognitive abilities, which can inform treatment recommendations and strategies for improvement. Understanding these cognitive domains is essential for developing a comprehensive approach to support your cognitive health.
Feedback Session
Together, we will review the results of your evaluation in detail, discussing the findings related to cognitive function, emotional well-being, and any identified areas of concern.
You will be provided tailored recommendations to support your ongoing development, which may include referrals to specialists for further assessment or treatment, such as speech therapy or occupational therapy, as well as suggestions for supportive services such as counseling or community programs.
