Michael Shapiro, PhD, ABPP
Dr. Shapiro is board certified in clinical neuropsychology. With over 15 years of clinical experience, he has practiced a multitude of settings with expertise in neuropsychological evaluation, psychotherapy, and vocational counseling.
He completed his Ph.D. in Counseling Psychology with a research focus exploring how intimate relationships impact neurophysiology and cognitive functioning.
Dr. Shapiro completed a two-year residency in Clinical Neuropsychology at Barrow Neurological Institute. There he gained extensive experience working with various neurological disorders (dementias, stroke, Multiple Sclerosis, epilepsy, etc) in both outpatient clinics and inpatient settings (epilepsy monitoring and acute rehabilitation units). He later served as a clinical faculty member in the Psychology Department at Penn State University . Dr. Shapiro has provided patient care in private practices in PA, TN, and VA, working closely with family doctors, neurologists, and mental health providers. Dr. Shapiro has also assisted with legal/forensic evaluations related to personal injuries. For over 6 years he provided services to Veterans at the Central Virginia Veterans Affair Medical Center (Richmond VAMC).
